"Ft Island Stillness"

"Ft Island Stillness" is oil on stretched canvas.

This painting is one of my favorites because of the day that inspired it. It was a rainy fall Sunday, and we had wanted to go to one of the East coast beaches with the kids, but the weather had other plans. Refusing to stay home all day, we piled into the car and let the kids choose where to go. One got to pick a mileage number for distance and the other got to pick the direction. Our only stipulation was that we couldn't go East, and we couldn't back track.

This fun adventure led us to Crystal River, Florida. And even though it's only a little more than an hour away, we had never been there.  We ended up exploring the town, the coast, the wildlife park just south of there in Homassasa, FL, and ended up at this beach here as the sun was going down.

It's a local beach, that isn't easy to get to, so there aren't a bunch of tourists. It was quiet and friendly and peaceful. It was also covered with fiddler crabs, which we had a wonderful time watching and playing with.

Every painting I do has some sort of story behind it, but I always look forward to what stories they remind the viewers of. I can't wait to see where "Ft Island Stillness" ends up calling home.
