Meet The Artist

Hello! I'm so glad you are here reading this, whether you came by a recommendation from a friend or family member, found me on social media, met me in person, or saw one of my pieces hung somewhere and loved it. In any case, welcome!

I'm Lyssa and Barefoot and Doodles is my soul calling carefully nurtured out of nothingness. Ever since I was a young girl, I have loved all things art related, and I've been creating art since the first time I figured out how to grasp something and leave a mark. I have painted and drawn on everything imaginable (even on things you're not supposed to,) and have always been asking for the newest art supplies, desks, and easels.  Over the years, my parents would joke with me that I needed a cheaper hobby, but despite that (art supplies are expensive!) I kept going!

I was born in Sarasota, Florida in the mid-80's, spent some of the 90's in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and then, in 1995, I moved to Idaho, where I finished out my childhood and graduated high school. Upon graduating in 2003, I relocated back to Florida, where I have now lived for nearly 16 years.  My most recent relocation Cocoa is a dream come true. I love the beach and all forms of water, which is why I paint it so often. I encourage you to look through my portfolio to see for yourself. I also love the forests, mountains, deserts, snow, spring time meadows.... all of nature and the outdoors. I want to explore it, to be IN it. I love to immerse myself in the experience and then translate that experience into my artwork.

My painting style could be described as realism with a touch of impressionism. I often use photo references, many of which I take myself, but always change some aspect as I develop a painting. For example, I'll change a color, add or eliminate items, or change the perspective. I do this to a feeling of realism with a dream-like quality.

Because I never paint an image exactly as photographed, my commissioned pieces are especially fun. I've have experience painting commissions for landscapes, still life images, portraits of people and pets, which you can find in my online portfolio.

I hope you'll enjoy wandering throughout my page and the places it takes you: mountainous and oceanic and everything in between. Please contact me if you are interested in having your own space brought to life through my artwork!

Cheers!
